    I've fallen behind the times.
Do the new Sempron processors go into the old socket A slot? even if your manual says just Athlon XP.
Same with mobile xp processors, do they go into socket a's?

Yes & no, Semprons are socket A
Some Mobo's would need bios update to run a sempron, check mobo manufacture for bios update.
Mobile XP cpu are socket A but not all socket A mobo's will support moblies.

Sempron = ecconomy version, better off getting XP 2500 or higher, get higher FSB, an bigger cache, if your mobo supports the higher fsb.

my motherboard is a kd7 abit.
It says it can do 200/266/333 fsb socket A and thats it.
I want to get a Moblie Athlon Xp-M 3000+ because its cheaper than the regular and i can overclock it easily.

as far as I can tell from the website, the highest processor your motherboard supports is a Barton 2600+ (333fsb) http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bios.php?categories=1&model=18

you may or may not be able to recognize a mobile 3000+, and if it's 400fsb, it would only run at 333 unless overclocked. try to find if anyone is using that combination before buying one.

I'm not sure if it will support a mobile, I would guess it would, but I dont want to lead ya the wrong way.
I believe weather or not it will support is too do with the voltages that's needed to run the mobile, I believe the voltages are lower than the non mobiles.?????????
There are a few peoples around here that do run mobiles on desktops, "ACE 256" is one maybe he will see this thread & respond.
He just posted a overclocking guide in the Overclocking page.

    who me ???? :p
As far as i know every mobo works with mobiles after all mobiles are the same thing as the normal ones the only dif. is mobiles have the ability to change the multiplayer and the voltage on the fly youl just get a unknown CPU type in the bios but it will run fine

    Opp's! my Bad,

If I could delete, I would.
I thought the 333fsb was high.
I new none were 400fsb, "Moblies that is"

O.K. I stuck my foot partway in my butt, my intention's were good!
    I'll take my 3 lashes!
    Am I forgiven??

    Ya you!
But dont some mobo's, do not have the abiltiy to set the voltage low enough for the mobiles?

O.K. I'm out of this Thread, I have too be careful where I put my foot!

    Good Luck, 3.14 = Pie

Yea all the mobile bartons are 266FSB i think has somthign to do with the mobile socket A mobos not liking any thing higher But it has nothing to do with the chip all bartons wil happely run 400FSB given the mobo is happy about the situation too ................and about the voltage thare desktop chips 1.6 stock thay just happen to run stable at 1.35 ~ 1.45 thus run cooler for laptops ;) ..............

I just was overclocking my 2200+ to 2600+ and i was looking at the voltage settings i could choose and it went pretty low, so im guessing a moble will be fine.
    Thanks ASUS and ACE 256.

So Ace you say I can make the FSB 266 to 333 and its ok?(since yours is 400)
Is Moblie better deal then reg?

-if i get a moblie should i get 3000+ or 2600+ and overclock it to 3000+?

(when i overclock my 2200+ should i add voltage as i go up? if so, how much.)
