    Hi there,
I'm looking to replace my CPU fan (it's way too loud), but don't know what socket type I'll need, as it's not stated in any specs.
Could anybody please tell me? I'm not too good with hardware!

The PC is an Advent T9404

    IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® 4 650 Prescott (3.4 Ghz)
    1024 MB DDR RAM - (2x 512 MB - PC3200)
    MS 7046 (Motherboard) [Diagram here]

    Full details here

Also, any recommendations of a quiet fan replacement?
I'm tempted to go with a Zalman model like the CNPS7000?
Would this be OK for my CPU in terms of size / socket type?

    Thanks very much!

Socket 775, it should be a72mm fan, and if thats the case, you will have to replace fan and heatsink

Yep....Note(1) To use the CNPS7000 Series coolers on socket 775, ZM-CS1 (Socket 775 Clip Support for CNPS7000 Series) must be purchased separately.

    Hi again,

there have been some developments since...

    - I emailed a company selling fans if it would be possible to replace this fan, and they said it would likely not be possible because of the type of motherboard Advent PC's use.

    - I then emailed someone who had the same problem as me, and they said the problem is not with the fan, but the motherboard - that they are faulty when it comes to controling fan speed.

    - I emailed the support centre of my PC, and they said they had no info on the problem, and only suggested updating the bios - which I have the latest versions of already.

So I really don't know what to do.
It seems I can only replace the motherboard (and then the fan if necessary) - but would it be possible to replace the motherboard with this PC? and what type would it have to be?

    This has gotten more complicated!
    Any advice guys?

If theres something wrong with the motherboard fan controller you really should contact advent if its still under warranty to arrange replacement

There are a few things you can try,if there any special fan controlling options in the bios try enable or disabling them, also you can connect the fan into a sys fan header but,the fan will run at full speed 24\7 if its a noisy fan that may not be an option, also the computer may fail to boot because it cant detect a fan connected to the CPU fan header you may be able to get around this by disabling CPU fan warnings in the bios:)
