soft modem file size

    I have a broadband connection
    so do i need this file
    agere systems pci-sv92pp soft modem size 29,599,00mb

    plus why is it so large a file size

    Hi

    If you dont need the dialup modem for say faxing, then indeed you dont need it, just disable it in Device Manager so the operating system doesnt ask for a new hardware device to be installed.

    as for size you sure its mb and not kb, could you link me to the download so I can check? as no seen a modem soft and driver that sort of size, one I found is only 1.44mb in size

    No, you only need it if you connect via dial-up or use fax. It's so big because software modems need a lot more data to control them and this one contains drivers also for all (Windows) OS's from 95 to Vista, including 64-bit versions. Give me a real hardware modem anytime ^^

    EDIT: CNET claims to have the driver available at only 675Kb; the 30Mb one via Versiontracker/Agere/LSI doesn't seem to be available anyway ...

    Thanks guys, I haven't been well lately and finding it hard to concentrate.
    The file size was in control panel add remove program, it is the biggest file size on my harddrive.
    thanks again was worried the file was somehow taking over it went up from 5 to 29 while i was using windows updatewill be glad to be rid of it.
