Software for Windows 8

Just bought new computer with Windows 8.1 installed. I am coming from 10 year old comuter that had Windows XP and it would seem Windows 8 does not come with a word processing software, even a basic one. Any recommendations on freeware out there with just a basic word processor?

This computer had a free copy or Webroot SecureAnywhere installed that came with a new computer purchase. I had free version of Avast and free version of Privatefirewall on my XP and really liked that combination. Any opinions good or bad on Webroot over what I had previously?

On top of that I have downloaded SuperAntispyware free version and Malwarebytes Pro of which already had a license with on my previous computer.

I also used Spywareblaster on the old computer, but not sure I need this on the new one?

If you want a basic word processor, why not use WordPad? If you want/need something more, there's AbiWord, Jarte, etc. Search MajorGeeks and choose 1that suits your needs.

I recommend WPS Office Free (previously Kingsoft Office Free). It includes a Word processor, spreadsheet program, and presentation program. If you only want/need a word processor, you can select only that option during installation, but you'll have the other 2 apps if or when needed. You'll find it on MajorGeeks.

I use the free editions of Avast Antivirus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Privatefirewall. If you stay away from the bad :crap sites, you'll be safe, it really depends on your needs.

 

Spyware Blaster is an absolute on all my OSes XP, Vista and 8.1. It protects all of your browsers. As stated by Eldon, Wordpad is good for simple word processing but, if you want a "full fledged" MSOffice type app, try Libre Office available here at MG's.
