software like access

I need a program that:
Works like MS access
is free
uses the same file type
anybody know one?

 

I believe the OpenOffce database software, simply called Base, will read MS Access files, at least up to Access 2003. I believe you'll need to download the entire OpenOffice suite; I don't know that you can install Base separately.

 

i have used OpenOffice

it's free, and works, tho some people don't care much for it, but like i said, it works.

 

It's not that simple. I use OpenOffice. I need to be able to create databases with the .MDB file type for use in visual studio. I can't do SQL. Too confusing. When I open up notepad and create a blank text file and save it with the .MDB extension, it doesn't work.

Edit: OK, maybe that link won't be helpful to you. It seems to apply where you have existing Access databases that you want to access with OpenOffice.
