For several months now I have been receiving occasional pop up notices on my Windows 7 desktop of programs needing updated and to click the pop up window to start the update. The title of the window for quite some time was "Software not". Recently it has changed to "Software not up-to-date". I have seen these update notices for Java, Adobe, and Google. Internet searches have revealed many people asking about this pop up, but I have seen no answers to date. Viper Antivirus has informed me it is not a threat of any kind. Is this update notice a Windows 7 function? All ideas, suggestions, comments any wish to share will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

No, its not a Windows 7 function. It is something third party that you have installed.

Thanks Adrynalyne, appreciate you considering and responding to my post. This little window is proving to be a real bugger. I have found no way to discover what it is or how to get rid of it. I've been through my Uninstall Programs list til I nearly have it memorized and see nothing that doesn'r belong. It offers no ID or uninstall option. Thank You for concurring with Viper and relieving my biggest worry. K.

Can you give us a list of your startup programs? You can find them via msconfig.

Just a thought here, but by any chance do you have Glary Utilities or an Update Checker installed ??

Do you use Avast! as your antivirus? My wife's laptop gets messages like that and they're coming from Avast!

True, I use Avast and it also has a software update checker.

Thanks Nick T. Using your info I looked once more in my Uninstall Program list but it wasn't there. However "hpwuSchd" is in the Processes tab in the Task Manager. Good Find. One thing I don't understand, from all the articles I Googled up about "hpwuSchd" each said it was for automatically updating HP software while the notifications showing up on my desktop are for updates to Adobe, Java, and Google. Oh well... Thanks, Appreciate the help. K.

Thanks All. I've been through the uninstall list in the Control Panel so may times. Each time I was looking for something starting with a "T" because of the name "tsassist". Each time I clicked on "File Type Assistant" the description sounded helpful instead of irritating. Also, at the bottom of the Control Panel window it showed File Type Assistant was from trustedsoftware.com. With a description and manufacturer's name like that why would anyone question it? File Type Assistant will be gone shortly. Appreciate the help. K.
