Software Or Hardware Fault?

Question is… Am I just unfortunate in having a Group Policy Client Services problem again or should I be chasing Sony to yet again mend my pc before the guarantee runs out?

I’d love some wise guidance on this!
    Thanks
    Jude

Manifestation of current problem… Yahoo Mail extremely slow accepting input, Chrome not opening, Hotmail email not updating, message ‘couldn’t connect to Group Policy Client Services’

PC… Custom Sony Vaio 13 Pro, Model Name: SVP1322C5E
    Windows 8.1 64bit
Work computer so only work related software installed

So here is the long winded history … Bought Feb 2014, with 2yr guarantee

At first I thought I had done something wrong while updating and installing software…

15 May 2014 Wireless adapter not working - ‘refreshed’ the pc – lost applications and settings

    12 August 2014 Crashed again

    13 August 2014 Crash

    16 Sept 2014 – Crashed again

    18 Sept 2014 – Crash

29 Sept 2014 crash, Kernel_data_input_error (when started pc), Critical_process_died (while skypeing)

Then decided it was serious but Sony tried to say it was my fault for installing bad software…

2 Oct 2014 Return to factory settings (Sony tells me it is not a hardware issue because the Recovery would have shown the problems - return to factory settings and only use the software it is shipped with)

    12 Oct 2014 BSOD Kernal\-data_input_error

    16 Oct Crash

Collected by Sony 20 Oct 2014 – I think they replaced SD

    But when Sony returns it…

3 Dec 2014 8:35 BSOD with kernel error

    28 Dec 2014 8:48 BSOD

31 Dec 2014 – Back to factory settings

2 January 2015 ---- Sony sent ‘fix’ to use before updating - Back to factory settings and update to Win 8.1 Pro for new job

New job so no time to look into pc problems …

    13 Jan 2015 BSOD

    12 Jan 2015 BSOD

24 Jan 2015 Complete system slow down

    31 Jan 2015 BSOD wysgog.sys

22 Feb 2015 Hopeless windows update – 2 times and back to factory – recovery – pro pack

    10 March 2015 Touchscreen inaccurate

11 March 2015 Touchscreen not working

17 April 2015 BSOD vsy.. message

19 May 2015 Touchscreen not working

3 June 2015 PC closed down

6 June 2015 Wouldn’t start till plugged in but battery was 99%

30 June 2015 File explorer stopped working – couldn’t connect to the Group Policy Client

Back to factory settings - assuming need to do that to get Sony to accept work needs doing

Collected by Sony 14 August 2015: Touchscreen not responding

    And now…

16 Nov 2015 Cannot connect to Group Policy Client Services

    – so do I try to find out how to fix it or will it be only temporary and may just then reappear after the guarantee expires?

Hopefully others will chime in, but you deserve at least some help. I will try. I am thinking flakey battery or power supply, but need to test it all.
    download http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/stressmypc.html
    1) back up all data
    2) remove the battery and do not put it back in until tests are done, unplug network and any external devices including mice and keyboard
    3) boot, be sure you are not on a network and run the above test for a few hours
    4) periodically check for how much heat is coming out and airflow
    5) when/if test concludes shut down and add one external component at a time using the computer normally - still no battery
Post results and more specifics if removing the battery and external devices does not work.

If this does not work and others cannot help get Sony to give you a NEW computer, Sony had their chance to fix it.

Thank you. Really appreciate your input – sorry I thought I’d posted a response before!

As a result of your advice, I looked around for a hardware issue rather than simply searching for a fix for the Group Policy Client Services message.

I couldn’t follow your instructions because the battery does not detach from my laptop, but I found the Sony Vaio Care section on my computer and ran a Performance check. There were 3341 disk cleaner problems and 10 registry defragmenter problems, which after running the provided fix functionality sorted all but 5 registry issues.

And problem solved – though I have notified Sony Customer Services because I do continue to wonder how come my machine developed these problems.

So, many thanks for your help

    Jude
