most of us here use firefox as a IE browser as its more secure and faster than IE
    here
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2248.html
it comes as a basic browser but has numerous plug-ins so you can modify it to your liking
    here
    https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox

take some time to read through the help menus try it out its free

    Drive Cleaners...

    CCleaner
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

    or

    HD Cleaner
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1287.html

both will remove temp, duplicates, old files etc etc

    -----------

as for AOL/DUN optimiser, dont have much working knowledge of AOL but did find this which may help,

    AOL Speed
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download507.html

at some point with DUN tho you willl not get much out of it, factors are line quality, distance to exchange, extention cables from phone socket, multiple phones on same line etc etc

whats your connection speed? ( best I ever got from a DUN modem was 49.9kb/s connection speed and that was having a dedicated line, no extentions or phones and the phone engineer tweak the line gain a bit at the exchange )

One idea could be just first delete everything you don't need, which is what you said you wanted to do, :) , and get a startup manager, which tells you what is loading onto your system at startup, or a process manager, ( its getting late ;) )

Go to the download page and look for downloads that have the word hot next to them, or really big numbers, those are really popular programs. For dial up optimization,go to connections and look for a tcp/ip optimizer

Leechget - http://majorgeeks.com/download1821.html for downloads is great

quote/Sounds like you may want to experiment with your modem settings.

First of all download and install Dr Tcp. Not in MG unfortunately so try

    Dr Tcp http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

Next write down EVERY current setting it displays so you go can back to your original settings. Don't skip this step.

An MG alternative to Dr Tcp. (Haven't used so can't comment).

A Modem tweak tutorial http://www.pengbo.dsl.pipex.com/ppages/tweaks.shtml that will help determine what settings to use.

2 google searches that will also help.

    Modem settings http://www.google.com/search?as_q=&...ch=&safe=images

    Dr Tcp http://www.google.com/search?as_q=&...ch=&safe=images

Lots of reading but worth it for us still on dialup. Bazza
