    Hi All,
I am building a web site & was wondering if anyone knew the name of the software that allows certain characters to follow your mouse as you move it across your mouse pad. (For example: www.hushpage.com/FoSi/fosi.html .)

    Thanks in advance,

    Gina

it is java script....I'll see what I can find...I am not at my main computer

    but.....

    Please don't do it...

IMHO it is one of the most annoying things to put on a website. I am sure some will disagree, but there is not much else that makes me want to leave a website so fast as those things.....

Check out JavaScript Source, they have alot of scripts including the one you are looking for.

I must agree, it is annoying script though, imho.

Please excuse the language in the link I'm about to provide, but the site itself does not contain what would be considered offensive or vulgar here. I just thought I'd provide you with an example of how annoying (and sometimes creatively eye-pleasing) Java-Script can be. Check this site out: The Crok's Swamp .

I thought I'd at least keep the URL from plain site due to the language, but like I said before, the site itself isn't offensive or contain any kind of "mature" material. It is, however, filled with Java-Script and things like that. It also has some introductions and beginner's documentation on Java-Script and other programming languages. You may find it useful.

    Hmmmm... Thanks to everyone.:)

green_newbie, just saw your post & looked at the site. EXCELLENT example of "just enough effects." I LOVE the ripples. (I think you spelled "intrusive" correctly too!)

†T-Rex †, I visited the site you posted & see what you mean about "creatively eye-pleasing." I guess that's why I want to learn how to do it. I AM a special effects junkie. Of course it can be overdone, but you gave me a great example of a site filled with much Java Script & Special effects! Thanks!

Of course I can see how too much (or any) would be annnoying, depending on the type of site & who would be visiting it, but this web site will be only the second I've done. It will be more of a "learning experience" than anything else. (The first was more of a "page" actually for my husband's business-- just uploaded text, design, and photos.) Since we have a deal with our web hosting service to host 2 additional sites for the price of one, I thought I might as well tinker & experiment with one, do things I've never done before, self-educate...

exeter_acres, you led me straight to what I asked for-- the mouse trail effect! Don't feel like an enabler, you just saved me some time. :) David983es and AbbySue, don't worry. No one will be making any money from this-- purely experimental (unless I get lucky & actually create a work of art!) I am a novice when it comes to these things, so I'm just kicking around & having some fun with it. Again, my heartfelt thanks to all of you. I have never posed a question here that was not answered in depth by the best English- speaking experts on the planet. *gushes* (This message board has saved me mega-bucks & I hope I can collect enough knowledge to help other novices soon!)

    Have a great weekend!

    Thanks Robo! :D

I just downloaded IrfanView & am amazed that it is actually freeware! (I have paid good money for other image adapters/viewers that don't seem to be nearly as good. I'll check it out.)

Thanks for the other tips as well. I had been avoiding Netscape (I have Opera 7 but need to use it more often) because I always associated it with AOL & thought it probably contained spyware, but I remember your help from a few months ago, when I first came to this site & was too terrified to reformat a hard drive. Since you are using it (and it IS popular) I will try it also. If you can think of any more popular browsers, let me know, as I am also building another site for my husband which (hopefully) will generate plenty of local traffic. Also, I tend to be forgetful when it comes to the fact that most persons (including beloved relatives I send email to) still dial-up! I've had DSL for several years now-- in Atlanta Bellsouth will give it to you almost as cheaply as dial-up ($49.00/month with free modem plus other incentives.)

I have been to Myrtle Beach- lovely place! I hope your grandsons exempt you & your wife from being terrorized; you should treasure your grandparents... Thusly, being a grandparent gives you carte blanche to get on a soap box & preach to me whenever you want. (Besides, how else will I ever learn anything?) So when you've rested your fingers, feel free to impart more wisdom. :D

Thanks for cheering on the Braves, Robo, they can certainly use it...

    Peace & Take Care,
    Gina
    :)
