    Hello.

I've got somewhat of a concerning predicament. I've got some files in folders that amount to being right on the maximum character limit for Windows file locations. These would be the files that I would like to backup to an external hard drive, but I don't want to lose any folder or file names if I can help it. It would seem to me that the easiest way to avoid that is to just pretty much have the backup program copy the files to the root directory of the external hard drive, as opposed to creating a folder for the backup itself. This external hard drive will not be used for anything else and this will need to be done on a Windows 7 system.

Is there a backup program out there, that you recommend, that will allow me to simply copy the files straight to the root directory without it throwing it in some default folder or image file?

Yes...I know I could always copy and paste the folder themselves but that's tedious and inefficient due to the fact Windows likes to ask whether you're ok with copying a system file, etc.. Don't want to wait 5 hours and finally check on it just to come back to that after all ;D.

Unless of course a backup image would not cause any problems as far as file path limitation goes. If it doesn't than I wouldn't mind the backup image option.

To put it more simply...I'm just looking for a way to basically copy certain folders from a hard drive and paste the copies of these folders to a backup hard drive at the root directory, not a subfolder of any kind. Not looking for it to create any special files or anything...just a straight up copy and paste pretty much. When the files get backed up to the other hard drive I want it to look just like a bunch of folders and files like the original. Ideally it would be a program that when a file has been modified after the last backup that it backs that file up (updating that particular backup file)...and if it hasn't then ignore that file and go on to the next.

I'm wanting it to have the same file system setup as the original. If there's a C:\Bacon folder on one drive then I want it to basically backup to D:\Bacon folder on the backup hard drive. Ideally not any special image files, new folder to store backup files/folders in, or specialty files specific to the program used (like .fbf files with Norton Ghost).

What would be the best program to do this with? Freeware or shareware doesn't matter.

Try @max syncup. Choose the type storage as uncompressed files and you'll get that you want.
