I have an android device with Gmote to control media on my PC (XP) just wondered if there was some software that I could control my PC from my laptop (W7) on the same network?

Teamviewer or just use the built in Remote Desktop if you are on the same network.

    Ditto!

"Team Viewer" is the program to get.
I've tried every remote control program to come down the road in the past umpteen years and Team Viewer is the only one that really works the way I need it to.

I'm in Florida, but I have friends all over the world. So far I've used Team Viewer to tune up a PC in California and one in Arkansas.
The program is FREE. You just can't beat that price!

If you install the 'Master' program on the PC you later want to access, and set it up to use a permanent password and start on boot up, you can then access that computer any time it's up and running. (and on the internet)

A friend of mine, another computer tech, uses team viewer to access and update his own PC customer's PC's.

    Good Luck!

Yeah handygal, for remote over your LAN, Windows has a built in Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) good suggestion . I'd suggest any flavor of VNC - TightVNC, UltraVNC...
the only thing is RDC will not just log on and give you control of the desktop, it creates it's own session, VNC will join the logged in user's session, making it a better tool for remote support.

Teamviewer is more an Internet thing, so your friends can get help from you without having to know how to open ports or what their WAN IP is.

Plus if you've rooted that Droid you can run VNC and remotely control your phone... it is not 100% there yet, runs a little slow. But you didn't ask that.
