    Dear All,

Could the Majorgeek Forum Gurus please recommend the best free software package (and simplest to use) which 'erases' files from a harddrive running Windows XP?

I understand that simply 'deleting' the files, as well as emptying the recycle bin, still leaves parts (if not all) of the file on the harddrive. These can be recovered using software.

As there is such a choice of software, I thought I would call upon the wisdom of the Majorgeek forum gurus and users, whom have been such a help in the past.

Many thanks and have a great day!!!!!

    Big Jim the Greek!

i'm thinking you are talking about a shredder? meaning you want to have files removed, and not be recovered? i know that spybot s&d (link below) has a shredder built in. i'm sure someone will come around a point you to another one, but this is all i can think about. g/l, sos

Yes.. there's a program called 'nCleaner' that has a free space "shredder". It scans your hard drive for free space, and then shreds it beyond all forms of recovery. You can also use DPwipe... DPwipe will delete a folder or file so completely that it meets Dept. of Defense standards for security. WOW! Both are free, and available here at Major Geeks.

I hope these programs help :)
