I have a computer with Mcafee internet security. When I want to connect to the internet I have to enter a password. I forgot the password, so I just tried to uninstall the program, but to uninstall it I also need the password. So what I did is delete the program files from the "C" drive. I can now connect to the internet with out being asked for a password, but when I start the computer I receive an error message say that Mcafee has an error and I need to reinstall the program. I do not want to reinstall it. How to I make this error message go away?

Googled "uninstall mcafee", almost 1.5 million links, two are below

There are also mcafee files in Documents and Settings folder, services in services.msc, and registry entries, plus other changes to system files. Seems some have made a profitable business out of your problem. I personally have done a reformat and reinstall of XP to get rid of Norton Internet Security. After my license expires for PC-cillin 2007 I will stay away from the Security Suites and run open source firewall and anti virus. Windows is a PITA, but it is a stepping stone toward use of more efficient operating systems.

I think you might want to reinstall the Mcafee internet security program, as when you first installed the program it "Configured" your system. Thus just deleting the "Program Files" has not deleted the configurations it made on install. If you reinstall it should ask you to create a "Password" which hopefully you can remember:D

The other method would be to use something like CCleaner to clean the registry, you have to click on the issues tab to do that, and yes save a back-up. The reason I suggest this second is that CCleaners Registry cleaner can sometimes miss registry enteries that it feels are not "Safe" to remove.

You can get CCleaner from Major Geeks here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html Hope that helps
