software update problem

my wife clicked on "want to install updates" Now she has "software update wizard updating your system" "Please wait while setup inspects your current configuration, archives your current files and updates your files" "Finishing Installation" "Details: Performing cleanup" box on the screen. I cannot click on Back, Finish or Cancel (will not highlight). I think this is a service pack 3 upgrade. She has had this box for 36 - 40 hours. What Can we do??:banghead

 

What kind of internet connection are you on? Dial-up by any chance? If so SP3 will take a long time to download as it is a huge update.

 

We have a broadband internet connection through our cable provider. The screen hasn't changed in the last 14 hours
