I have a problem with the Major Geeks Software Updater program. Downloaded and installed it yesterday, and was just about to use it to make changes, but I held back because the program is faulty. It id'd my system's OS as Windows 8. W8 has NEVER been on my computer. My system has seen XP for 7 years, W7 for 18 months, and W10 for 4 days. This is too glaring an error for me to trust the program. , and I removed it with Revo Uninstaller. I would respectfully suggest the program developers withdraw the program until this bug can be ironed out.

If it made such an elementary error, I fear it might be making other, not so obvious errors. I'd be interested in others points of vies on this. Thanks.

    If you mean this one:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/majorgeeks_software_updater.html
you should post a comment at the lower left side immediately below 'downloads, where it says 'comments' and one of the site owners will reply. (Not the link that says make 'suggestions' to this forum here.) Just don't use it till you get an answer to the comments section.
In the meantime just update programs manually, ie go to the help section of each program and if you see a link 'check for updates' follow that. Or use this one:

I'll ask Jim, but it's not a system info tool so not sure the wrong operating system detected will make a difference. This is the first time I've heard of this problem, and there have been no other complaints. You also never actually tried the program so I have no idea if this small bug affects its usability; I suspect it won't. :) If you decide to try it, let me know. Otherwise, I can't do much here with nothing to go on. :(

I look at the info before I download anything.
Note the program is from May 2014 before Windows 10 came out and it doesn't mention Windows 10 as being supported . If it doesn't say Win 10, then don't try and run it on Win 10. This is true of any download at any site. Always read when the program was last updated and the system requirements.

"If it doesn't say Win 10, then don't try and run it on Win 10."

I still use programs from 1995 on Windows 10. I guess I should remove all my working Steam games too? All my games? Thousands of them? Sorry, that's just wrong.

Windows 10 is just like Windows 8 and 7 before it. If a certain program doesn't run right, try running it in compatibility mode. Just my 2 cents.

I should have phrased my statement better.
"If it doesn't say Win 10 is supported then you can't complain if it doesn't run properly."
The OP complained about a program which may or may not work on Windows 10. My point was, if it doesn't work, don't complain that the program can't be trusted.

I too have things from my Win 9x days that work fine on Win 7 and others not so fine but I don't complain because these programs were written well before Windows 7 was even coded.
