Software Won't Run due to Non-missing Component

I recently installed the Encyclopaedia Britannica (EB) DVD (Encyclopaedia Britannica 2003 Ultimate Reference Suite DVD-ROM) on my PC (Model: Hewlett-Packard s5770uk-m; OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1). During the setup it wanted to install QuickTime but a dialogue box came up saying my PC had a newer version of QuickTime so asked me to select an option not to install it, which I chose.

Today, when I tried to open the EB I received an error message (attached). I do have QuickTime (Apple QuickTime 7.7.6) installed so I don't understand the error message (attached).

I would appreciate any suggestions as to a resolution for this problem.

I don't know if this gives any clues to the source of the potential problem. All the info I've given about my PC, OS, etc. I obtained from Belarc Advisor. The one exception is the details for the EB, which isn't listed by Belarc Advisor amongst my software. Is its omission a symptom of anything?

 

This might be another example of Apple's finger in every pie. I would try the latest version of Quick Time just to see if that is the problem.

 

You won't get it to work on any windows post XP.
Encyclopaedia Britannica 2003 uses Quicktime 6 which included QuickTime for Java (QTJ), a wrapper for java software to provide multimedia functionality.
Security features in operating systems post windows XP have completely broken QTJ.
QTJ has been deprecated by Apple and is not available in Quicktime 7.
