Sold Laptop - How should I wipe the HD?

    I just sold a laptop online and I would like to clear the hard drive before I ship the machine. Any suggestions on a program that I can use to wipe the hard drive so I can reinstall the original software that came with the machine and not have to worry about old data being recovered by the new owner?

    Thanks, so I'm a bit of a beginner at this....so I'm just downloading and running the program on my computer from a USB drive. Fingers crossed that I don't have any issues reinstalling the original software!
