Ive tried a few things and nothing worked. Mind you I am a computer dummy also, but seem to keep my system working fine and clean.

I don't know what she does but she's regular about it lmao...

She took it to some dummy he took IE right off the system and put Foxfire on for the browser.
So now I have found Windows Live OneCare safety scanner which works very fine. I have fixed a few computers using it from virus' and adwear.
The problem is you have to download the free safety scanner from IE to use it. It won't let Foxfire download and scan your computer to find and fix issues.

She has a Dell Dimension 3000 missing disk number 3 out of 5 disks. None are labeled windows or IE.

What must I do to get IE back on her computer so I can fix the dang thing?:major

IE cannot be removed. It is an essential part of Windows( which would not run without it). Possible he may just have selected Firefox as the default browser. IE would still be installed, but Firefox would run instead when going online.

He may have just removed the desktop icon, so go to program files and look for the IE folder. Then right click the application and send to desktop ( shortcut).

He may have merely "uninstalled" it via the Add or Remove Programs panel. This does not really remove IE files from your system; it just removes shortcuts, icons, etc. for IE.

To reverse that procedure, go to Add or Remove Programs panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components (button is on left side of Add or Remove Programs panel), find IE and select it to be installed. Proceed as prompted.

Some how he did disable the networking services in windows.
Also disabled automatic updates which I couldn't get to correct itself either.
I did how ever get IE to work somewhat. But when I tried to install the windows free safety scanner when the popup came up and said install as soon as I clicked it IE was gone. Tried a couple times and the same. I guess I'm just going to have to have the pc girl come over and show me how to wipe the system right out and start fresh again...

It's an on going problem with this girl and computers.
From what I've seen personally, Myspace rap music gamer things tattoos piercings, cars are where the worst infections lay for computers. Where deviates hang trouble follows. haha...

Thanks for the help here, but it's beyond me at this point...

If you got a popup to install this - do not do it. That's how malware continues multiplying on computers.

You can go here http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm and click on the Full Service Scan.

The IE Tab extension for Firefox will let you do whatever, like windows updates
    download MS stuff etc.
My Windows box is fully updated and patched, and I haven't started IE proper for literally years.
I uninstalled IE to the extent that it can be, in add remove windows components
    as described above.
Hope this helps on the way to recovery.

If it's anything like the mess my daughter once made of a system, a fresh install
may just be your best bet.

    Good Luck

I'm right with you Frogie on the fresh reinstall she has something very wrong in her system.

    You said;
" The IE Tab extension for Firefox will let you do whatever, like windows updates

Where the hell do I find this? I use Foxfire also, and have to use IE to do everything at Microsoft and Windows. But Windows does do the auto update thru Foxfire I think not fully sure through, CRS...

I have Peoplepc dialup and I log online with IE and leave that window open so when an e-mail comes in the peoplepc popup shows me I have an e-mail. Foxfire does seem to be a tad slower this way...

A while back I had just a dial in number for peoplepc set up when it got online I'd click Foxfire in and go for it.

Thanks for the link to IE Foxfire tab. There is so much to go thru with Foxfire addons and all, I've never seen that one.

Thanks to Froggie pointing it out and you posting the link! I have it now...
