Some feedback on these logos please

I have to design a logo for myself, based off of my name (David), for my art class. We need to have 3 different concepts, all of which must be black and white. We get to add color down the road, but right now black and white only (greyscale is okay).

Here's my first idea. Looking for any and all suggestions or ideas, I kind of liked the idea when I came up with it, but it didnt really end up looking as good as I would've liked. Anyhow, critique away please! More to come in the next couple days...

Gah, I'm really struggling with the setup of your suggestion Kodo, maybe I'll have something to show tommorow. I really need to practice my proportions, been trying to sketch up an idea for Lambo (my last name is Lamb) - as in ripped sheep with guns, like Rambo, but everything is turning out like shit. :/ Gah!

 

gotta have bullet holes and the top of the A has to be blown off with smoke wisps coming off the top and debris on the foot of the A

 

you need to fix his left arm. way too skinny. also, your dude is more of an icon than a logo.. too big in propotion to your name. take a look at the MG logo.. you want everything together and tieing together.

maybe lambo... picture a lamb face with a major attitude and a helmut with a logo "LAMBO DESIGNS" on it. then you don't have a body to deal with.

 

Yea, something is certainly amiss with his arm, although I'm not sure it's the width... perhaps his chest needs to cover less of his upper arm, although I'm not sure - I've been making the pose in the mirror, and I've discovered that I've drawn his shoulders at a bad angle, and I think that's creating the problem with that arm. Im thinking about re-drawing it entirely cuz his pose seems so rigid. EDIT: Bah the more I look at it, I think both of his forearms are far too skinny. Grrrrr

And my teacher made the same comment about drawing attention away from my name when I showed him some initial sketches so I think that pretty much counts out the first idea, however I don't think thats much of an issue with the second one (right?)

Also, while I agree that geometric shapes+borders+simple picture make for good logos I want something more stylistic/artistic and less straight up "graphic" because this is for my portfolio cover, and I want a bit of my style to be conveyed on the cover.

Question, what word should I use in conjuction with Lambo/Lamb for each of these (i like #2 better as well, but I need to have 3 concepts total for friday). Like Lamb Designs? Lamb Studios? Not much seems to work well with lamb...

 

LambChop's? Lamb Bone Studios... Wild 'N Wooly Design... Bahahhahhaha! I dunno man, that's off the top of my head

And Ice, I actually really like the "Wild and Wooly" idea, although I'm almost positive the text itself needs to have my name in it... I will ask tommorow though, that name fits the picture pretty well I think.

That looks pretty good. The only thing I would work on is making the word GRAPHICS flow more in line with the font you're using for LAMBTASTIC.

ánd, make sure the top of the paint object (don't know the word in english) is a bit better visible, cause it blends in with the black so you only see him standing there with a stick in his hands.

Closer.. but the graphics font still needs a little tweaking..

The brush looks much better now.

 

i think what kodo is suggesting is increase the size of your font in graphics. make it more of a circle.

 

Sanks much for the help, I can't imagine I'll be working on these much more till Sunday night. (I only needed 3 rought concepts by today... I have a few more months till I need finalized versions) My teacher had quite a few suggestions and I've got a couple more ideas, but there's other things on my mind tonight.

I'm reluctant to make "Graphics" much bigger, because I want focus to be on "LAMBTASTIC" and the character.

Took a break to work on a sketch before finishing this one... But, I was thinking some dog tags beneath it with "Lambo" engraved on one and "Graphics" engraved on another.
