Hey guys, I need some help. I just put in a E2180 into my system and i'm having some heat issues. On idle, the temps are around 40-50C while on full load (Orthos for 2-3minutes) the temps go up around 70-80C according to CoreTemp. Once I overclocked it to 3.0ghz, the idle temps were around 53C but when I ran Orthos for literally 5 seconds the temps jumped up to 100C+! I do have an aftermarket cooling installed. its the GeminII which got pretty good reviews. I have 2 120mm fans attached to it blowing at the HS. I did establish that I placed way too much Arctic Silver 5 when placing the HSF on, but is that what is causing these horrid temperatures?

And in case someone doesn't know, the GeminII heatsink doesn't clip on like some normal ones do. I actually have to take the motherboard out and place the HS in the holes and screw it firm from the other side. It's not really loose, but if i apply a bit of force I can move it, but I dono if thats just me pushing it too hard or if its moving too much on its own. One last observation I noticed. The temp was around 70C and i turned off my computer to get into BIOS for a second. After I turned it off, I felt the CPU HS to see if it was hot, and it wasn't hot at all. Not even a little bit. It was cool, and cold. Should it be like this? Even when the temperatures hit 70C+ the heatsink is not warm at all. Is this a incorrect heatsink seating problem? Btw, my case is open right now, while i'm trying to solve my little crisis.

Can any of you lend me a hand? I just want to get this working :(. Now i'm kind of regretting getting the Gemini despite great reviews for it. To make matters worse, one of the screws that attachs to the mobo untighted a bit on the top and now i can't even take the heatsink out cause the screw wont budge. Or at least i'm having a hard time.

    Build:

    E2180
    3gb OCZ DDR2 800mhz (2x512 & 2x1024)

For a start I'd remove all the OC'ing! Heat is a killer.

When you had too much AC5 on did you completely wipe and clean before applying new compound?

I cannot understand how your HS is so cool aswell, i run Thermaltake Blue Orb II and it tends to peak at 38C, idle it sits around 28C but its still warm to the touch after use.

I can only guess there may be a fault with your gemini HS, but its almost unheard of.

Is this a new build or do have a stock HS? If you can remove that dodgy screw with some patience then it might be worth checkin your temps with the stock cooler on, just for comparison
