Hello all. I have a few minor issues that have been bugging me for a while now, and I was hoping I could get at least some of them resolved here.

First of all, I use Windows Xp. I will add more info as needed...

    1) I use CCleaner and Tune-Up utilities 2004, and both of these programs tell me that I have 31 "issues" on my computer. When I click the button to FIX them, the programs tell me that they did, but if I run the program(s) again, the same 31 issues are still there. I believe this problem started after Microsoft updated my Office 2003 to SP2. These problems range from unused file extensions, to invalid default icon, to ActiveX/Com issues. Any ideas on how to get rid of these for good?

    2) I used Registry Mechanic about 2 weeks ago, and since then, I have had a few quirky problems:

    a) Some of the text in my "shared" folder where I keep my Mp3s is now blue. I estimate approximately 1/30 of the music files are now completely in blue font. I also noticed this in most of my sound files under C:/Windows/Media. This happens on the files (music) that I have associated with Windows Media Player, as well as the files (video) that I associate with Nero Showtime Media player 2.

    b) If I go to my control panel, all the options are now in "icon" form. I cant figure out how to change it back to the way it was, where the options were all organized on a grey background with a completely different visual style. (Hope that made sense, not sure how to explain it). I tried changing it by right-clicking and selecting VIEW, but all those choices don't revert the visual style back to the way it was.

    3) I have a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 4000 video card, and I have the "NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager" installed. The problem is, that when I am on a site that uses Macromedia's Flash player, I can no longer right-click and select REFRESH, to refresh what I'm seeing. I have all the other options available, just not refresh. I looked in the desktop manager, and I couldn't find a way to get the refresh option available again. The odd thing is, when I'm on any other screen EXCEPT for Flash player, the right-click refresh option is still available.

------ Hopefully I can get these quirks addressed, as they are rather bothersome. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Justin

    Thanks for the help!

The bizarre thing is, the upper left side of the screen in the options menu didn't have the option to switch back and forth between classic and category view. I actually just stumbled across the option under Tools/Floder options/General/Tasks... At any rate, that problem is fixed, and I reallly appreciate your assistance!

Does anyone else have any ideas about the other issues?

    Thanks

WinXP includes a feature that "compresses" files that aren't often used to save space, where the blue color is used to mark files that have been compressed.

You could try to start Windows XP in safemode and perform the cleanup.

Hello again Snakefoot. I tried starting in safe mode & cleaning, but it didn't fix anything. Any more ideas?
