    Hi gang,
This is my first post so if I'm doing something wrong please forgive me in advance.
Here is my story, short sweet and to the point.
Had problem with browser hijacking NORTON called it "Adware.iefeats" and "ia.dll".
Tried to delete automatically with Norton AV and "Delete Failed". So I went in and searched and deleted the files manually. Rebooted and new version of "Adware.iefeats showed back up. So, did system restore and also discovered I had been running around the internet with my firewall down. (Stupid Mistake). Ran Norton AV upon boot up and only had 6 "adware.iefeats" virus's. Deleted those manually and system seem to run EXCELENT but Norton still finding "Adware.iefeats" and "ia.dll". Took Nortons manual removal sheet and followed the directions only to find none of the files they said I would have in the regeditor. System still running fine though.
Came to major geeks and relized I need to download Spybot, Adaware 6.0 and Hijackthis.exe ran them all and they seemed to clean things up alot. System still running great. So, then I went back and did Norton AV scan after Windows Update and all current Updates on my system. Tighten down my cookies for better security, verified firewall was up and running. Norton said I had one "Adware.iefeats" and one "ia.dll". System still running great. So, a few days later out surfing the internet and Spybot started rejecting and prompting to block stuff.....I clicked yes, block this. Went back to Spybot, Adaware 6.0 and Hijackthis.exe and they found nothing unusual. Then went and ran Norton AV and had 12 new versions of "Adware.Iefeats". Oh and one trojan horse which got quarantined.

Question 1: Why do Adaware 6.0, Spybot and Hijackthis.exe tell me I'm cool but Norton AV freaks out and says I have "Adware.Iefeats" and "ia.dll". Is Norton just being extremely conservative. Is Norton AV seeing left over files somewhere? Note: I empty the trash can.

Question 2: How come when I follow Nortons manual removal of these two do I not find any of the HKEY values in my system to be removed? Yes, I did set view all folders even OS folder and files!

Question 3: How the freak to I stay away from these freakin virus's?

Question 4: Is there a firewall or program that I can use to not let these things in to my computer?

NOTE: On Hijackthis.exe I DID research the different lines and deleted the ones that were Iefeats virus but NORTON AV still sees it.
What can I buy to protect me? Is there a switch somewhere on my computer that I can set to prevent this?
Please help! I spent almost 12 hrs one day trying to figure this crap out.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Shut off your system restore before you try getting rid of your virus and spyware. Instructions are in the FAQs at the top of the forums along with good advice about avoiding viruses, trojans, and spyware. Check here for firewalls http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads34.html . I use ZoneAlarm and Avast! for my antivirus protection (both available through MG) because they come highly reccomended. Download and run SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard. (available here http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads34.html ) They'll help keep most of the bad stuff out. If it still wont go awau post your system info and a Hijackthis log (instructions also in FAQs) and someone will try to help you out. If you want to squeeze the most out of your system, you're in the right place. Consider ditching Norton. They charge too much for their services and hog your resources. MG has better and cheaper available.
