This week, I suddenly had several sites that would not load on my PC, including MajorGeeks. I normally use Palemoon, but tried the same sites using Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Internet Explorer. The sites do load using my wife's PC. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Joe

Palemoon is my default browser and I have no problem loading on my two computers.
First place to look it at the extensions/addons you have installed in palemoon. Since other browsers load the sites, it has to be one of them.
If your wife also uses palemoon, compare her addons with yours and disable any you have that she doesn't.

If that doesn't fix the issue, we can try something else.

She does not use Palemoon. The sites do not load on my computer on any of my installed browsers. I did disable all plugins, reloaded Palemoon, but they sitll would not load. I uninstalled Palemoon, reloaded, rebooted and the same sites still do not load.

Try Flushing your DNS resolver Cache.

    Open a Command Prompt with Admin Privileges and type;
    ipconfig /flushdns
    (Note: space after ipconfig)

    Reboot, then Retest.

    :)

Sorry, I did not read it as every browser on your computer failed to load the sites.
What version of Windows are you running?
    This doesn't load?
    Code:

Launch a command prompt and see if you can ping those web sites. Not all sites will respond to pings, but some of them should (it would help if you could provide a list of the unreachable sites).

If you can't ping any of the sites, install Malwarebytes and scan your computer.

Pinged sited on my computer and my wife's. On my computer, they timed out. On wife's they pinged. Sites pinged weberbooks.com, userfriendly.org and thedailygouge.com

If a DNS flush did not suffice, then its highly probable that an unwanted, embedded script is redirecting your requests.

Can you please run Hitman Pro
(please select 'One-Time only' scan so as not to register).
Remove all found, Reboot and Retest.

    1. Check if your hosts file has anything in it that is blocking you.
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
In the right column right click on hots and open with notepad.
Are there any sites in there?

    2. Check what the DNS is set to on your computer.
Open a command prompt and type in
    Code:
    ipconfig /all
Note the space between the / and the word all.
The DNS servers should be at the bottom.
Compare these with the DNS on the working computer. They should match but perhaps for some strange reason they don't. change then to match the working computer.

Yes, Hitman Pro reported no threats found.
The only thing in hosts is 127.0.0.1 localhost
    DNS servers are the same.

About the only other thing I can suggest to to create another profile in your browser, Palemoon. I'm now trying to find directions on how to do this.

OK, I am trying the malware removal guide.

Well it looks like TimW has given you a clean 'Bill of Health' over in the Malware section, so my next point of solution would be to try directing your DNS requests through a public server such as Google DNS, Open DNS or Cloudfare DNS, and see if this improves things.

For Windows machines, this can be done by adjusting your TCP/IP settings under the network settings of your preferred network!
    https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

This will take all of your DNS request handling, away from your ISP.

What sort of internet connection do you have? Cable, DSL
Have you ever run any sort of TCP optimizing software for the current internet adapter?

Try to ping 8.8.8.8 or try 216.239.38.120 (google). Will 127.0.0.1 ping? Did you run the network repair part of the tweaking tool?
Go into Setting and reset the network there. Go in Control Panel and Internet Options, under Advanced restore adv. settings and reset.

Check they're not blocked in the firewall. Make a rule to allow each in the outbound and inbound settings.

Go to device manager and remove and detect (reinstall) your adapter.

Did you get the stop code? Go get bluescreenview from Nirsoft and start there.

It seems almost everything possible has been tried.
If you are using wireless, use wired and see if the sites load. If they do, the wireless adapter might be having issues. Though I don't understand why only some sites (and the same sites) always are blocked.

Let's look at what processes are running. With a browser open, press ctrl+alt+del and see if anything strange seems to be running.

    What security programs are installed?

Do you have a restore point from before this issue started in early January?

Got bluescreenview from Nirsoft. It found 4 stop codes, all the same 0X1000007e, with caused by driver of insect.sys

    volz Private E-2

Already plug into router, no change.
    No processes that seem strange.
Running Avira Free Antivirus, scan found nothing
Firewall is Windows Firewall, nothing blocked in it.
No restore points prior to this happening
The computer is 9 plus years old, so I just got a new laptop, but I have not had time to set it up yet.
    Thanks for all the help.

See if there is a newer driver for the network. Also you might boot into safe mode and try to delete the NIC. What is the OS?

  32. volz

    volz Private E-2

    OS is Win7.
Booted to safe mode, was able to load pages, deleted NIC, reinstalled, back to normal mode, was able to delete NIC and reinstall, still can't load the same pages.

Another software script (application, driver, setting etc) is interfering then.....Its not malicious, but its possible genuine (third-party) software may be the cause.
Tim might be able to pinpoint some suspects from your posted logs in Malware?
