i have not bothered to deal with it in some time, but for the flashiness of some ubuntu aspects i installed it some time ago. however i did it through windows, since i did not feel that i fully understood the partitioning as it explaining it when i was just rebooting into it.
with that said, after installing it through windows i could not successfully boot into it after restarting. i in the least want to get rid of this copy of ubuntu for the moment, but i am not sure of the safest route. if any simple deletion or repartitioning of that section is a good enough solution.
in the end, i would love to try to get used to ubuntu for the looks and supposed greater performance and smoothness(over some windows performance). i have said that i wish that things could be a little more like windows in the way directories and simple navigation and double clicking everything is in windows. if i could at least have the partition cleaned that would be good but i dont want to just go around deleting things if it might be somehow tied to something else. with that said though, my hardrive also came from a dell so it still has a side partition of some sort that i am probably seeking to get rid of as well.

i may seek out extra help to try and reinstall ubuntu again and possibly make the transition easier. at least now i know that installing it through windows, although it seemed a clearer and easier option is probably the wrong way for me. thanks for any and all help.

Do you know if you installed it using WUBI? When you bootup, do you have a screen asking you which OS you want to boot to?

i do believe that i installed using that. i did it in windows with the cd.
as far as questions when i startup, i would have to check again to see exactly, but i think i set it to boot on windows only since it didnt work when i installed last.
was just wondering if there was a safe way to just clean it or if it might have any connection with some other part of my computer.
unless the wubi installer thing has become more stable, i will need to install from reboot i think.

I have never used the wubi method myself, but a quick check on the wubi website shows you uninstall it like any other windows program.

    Code:
    http://wubi-installer.org/faq.php#use

i may need to try a different approach. i may have been wrong about the wubi thing, since ubuntu isnt listed under programs when i went into the control panel. when i selected the ubuntu partition in windows i found a uninstall eventually. however i didnt get anything after vista warned me about the program trying to run.

currently running a few things i cannot stop at the moment so i cannot check if i can do anything at boot up, but i am considering the option of just reformatting these partitions. since the uninstall program doesn't even seem to work.

Go into the windows disk management console right click my computer>manage and choose disk management, that will show you if you have a seperate partition ubuntu is on or not, it will be labeled something like unknown partion or logical.. etc

if it is that way, just delete the partition, and use the win disk mngt to re-allocate the space to your c drive or whatever you would prefer.
