some what new, need help with 9800GTX

Hi, I dont know a whole lot about computers just some of the basics. Anyways I recently upgraded to a 9800gtx Card from a 8400GS and am having problems with resolution.

I use my 32in LCD TV as my monitor and had no problems with my last card.

The problem is after i get the Card all set up and boot up my PC, my desktop is automatically set to the lowest resolution and with 4bit colors and it can't be changed at all. Tried driver on cd with no luck. I made sure the 2 PCI-e Cables from my Power Supply were hooked up into the Card. I also tried getting to nvidia.com for driver download but internet crashes i guess cuz i guess card can't display it.

In BIOS i changed the card it read from PCI to the PCI-E Option. And also updated BIOS from the HP site.

My current upgrades are

9800GTX - video card
3gb of RAM
OCZ 600w Power Supply

Im thinking its maybe i need a new processor or Motherboard??
Any help appreciated. I think i may stop by at end of work which is in about 4 hours and then head to Microcenter!

 

Your BIOS setting should be PCI-E/PCI this will indicate that you want the PCI-e slot to boot first in the boot priority. It this doesn't sort it out then I would be downloading the latest Video Driver from nVidia on another PC and then saving it to desktop. Next would be to uninstall the old nVidia Video Drivers, rebooting and then installing the new drivers.
