My computer seems to have a virus, and I've tried everything i know of to try to fix it but nothing seems to be working. The symptoms are that my homepage changes to http://easy-search.biz/, i get alot of pop-ups (mostly porn), wen i click on links it often takes me to webpages that have nothing to do with what i'm doing, programs on my computer aren't opening properly such as AOL or even my control panel, my internet properties always freezes when I try to change it, and often my internet won't even load web pages. I've tried cwshredder and hijackthis, but maybe i'm doing something wrong. Please, someone help me clean this mess up.
    Much appreciated,
    Adam

i looked at the other posts and none of their problems seemed to match the one i'm having. I used to have a virus like the ones they were talking about and i used cwshredder and it worked that time, but this virus seems to be different because it comes back right away each time. Do you think you could specifically help me out here or i could send my hijackthis log or something? please help me out?

Did you follow the steps about turning off restore points and trying in "safe" mode? The buggar could be hiding in the restore points on your pooter.

Some bugs and virus/search pages are difficult to remove.
If your runing xp have you tryed system restore, if your infected good, you will need to turn off system restore to remove the low life scum.

When all else fails, there is the option of complete format & reinstall windows

click start>control panel>performance and maintenence> system >"system restore" tab> check the box marked "turn off system restore". Yes, you will lose all your restore points. . .

From Windows Help: System Restore overview: System Restore is a component of Windows XP Home Edition that you can use to restore your computer to a previous state, if a problem occurs, without losing your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e-mail). System Restore monitors changes to the system and some application files, and it automatically creates easily identified restore points. These restore points allow you to revert the system to a previous time. They are created daily and at the time of significant system events (such as when an application or driver is installed). You can also create and name your own restore points at any time.

    Notes

Restoring your computer does not affect or change your personal data files. It is a good idea to back up your data files periodically. For example, you might copy your data files to removable media, such as a writable compact disc, once a week.
For an overview of the other recovery technologies provided with Windows XP, see Recovering Your System.
For more information about System Restore, see Understanding System Restore.

    AHAAAAA!!!

I'll bet that's where your bug is hiding, and the fact that you didn't know how to manage the Restore Points gives you a whole new world of possibilities now.

Clear 'em all by turning OFF the system. REBOOT. Then do all of the spy and virus scans and removals.

    That'll get the bugger.

Win98 doesnt have system restore, so you dont have to worry about that.
Download free version of Adaware here:
    http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

After you install it - get the latest updates from their website - then run it - delete the garbage it finds - reboot - do it again until it finds nothing.

Then - download Spybot Blaster here:

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Sometimes, it will pick up somthing that Adaware might miss.

Sorry, awdefrin. We all thought you were running XP, since you didn't SAY what your OS was.

i know i know, i'm sorry for not specifying. Anyways I tried to do adaware scan followed by spybot scan as suggested and nothing really changed; still the same problems i was having before. If worse comes to worse, what will happen? will i have to just delete everything i have? i have to use my computer soon because i'm in college and i need my internet to do work and all. Please, someone tell me what the best thing to do in my situation is and how to do it.
