I had also posted this up on my Deviantart page but I just wanted to share it with you guys... it REALLY bothered me... =\

There is something REALLY bothering me right now...

I ran into someones DeviantArt page... and this person had a picture of their arm cut up. Extremely bad cuts... and blood was everywhere. When I saw this I was shocked. How could someone do that to themselves, and post it on a website and pass it off as art? It was like they were proud of it... proud of their suffering. I'm sure the only reason this person is posting it up for the WORLD to see is for attention. This person obviously has no self-respect for themselves. I just hope this person comes to their senses and finds some help.

I don't have a problem with self-mutilators. I can see why some people do it. That doesn't mean its the right thing to do though... ya know? Its not healthy. Sure it might make you forget about your problems for a while, but it wont solve anything....

Self-mutilation is pretty much a permanent solution to a temporary problem...

And your response is just the kind of response a self-mutilator wants to see. They struggle for attention so they get it anyway they can. Posting it up on Deviant Art and watching the view counter go up.. well, that feeds this persons sickness. Only therapy can help.

Yeah I don't think they're going to see the response though. I wasn't responding to them. I was just writing in my Deviantart journal about the incident. Which I doubt they'll ever see.

I reported them... so I'm pretty sure they'll be banned. I hope so.

this could be a call for help. many people who are depressed make their despair aware to others, but dont ask for help straight up.

a guy round here made others aware of his depression..... he walked onto the slip road of the motorway and got hit by a vehicle, but despite that, he then staggered to his feet and continued onto the main carriageway of the motorway, where several vehicles had to swerve to avoid him, but before the police arrived he was hit with a supermarket lorry and killed instantly! i cant believe just how many lives these people put at risk tryin to end their own!

playing devils advocate... how do you know it wasnt just very very good makeup ( movie type stuff ) or digitaly manipulated, I say this as I see this stuff at work quite alot, last round of pictures we did had a girl who looked like she had just shot an armfull of drugs up, needle marks, brusing, sweating, puffy eyes all the halmarks of an addict were there...you would think they were real until you saw the pics of the makeup room! I'm used to photo manipulation and digital images but this time they fooled me, reality is getting easier to fake these days ;)

Edit: you did the right thing tho Cano and if they are harming themselfs and its not good makeup/manipulation then the powers at DA will decide.

    Hmmmm...not nice!

I agree with you, Canno. Basically, it's attention seeking, usually by some sick and twisted individual(s). The world's full of them, unfortunately.

There are even entire sites devoted to this sort of anti-social garbage.

It can be faked, also. But doesn't make it any better, i.m.o.

It's nickname young padawan; aka: "cutters," for those who like to slice/cut/dice themselves.

I know its not nice to say, and I don't mean it in a bad way, but these "artist" kinds of communities ALWAYS have a number of weirdo people in them.

Time is much better spent at a fine, upstanding, respectable, traditional values based website such as this one...

Ew, I don't think I would have been able to see that and not throw up. That image would be in my head for a long time. I hate when people do that. I have friends that do it but I know that I can't help them because they often don't do it rite in the open. Most cutters don't want people to know they are doing it, because usually it means spending a few nights in the hospital. The reason they do it is because they have a problem (mostly depression) and they want a way to show the pain they can understand so they do this to make the pain in there cuts, not in there other problems. It gives them a way of dealing with their pain but the method they use is not right and that is why if you know someone that does it you need to seek immediate attention from a counselor or something like that.

I used to use deviant art also, and a similar incident happened to me. I mean, I was browsing through random newly posted pictures and one was of this guy who cut up his chest and took a picture of it. It was pretty bad ..

People shouldnt be condemmed for being depressed, or for resorting to that sorta thing... but posting an image of it on dA really isnt a cool thing to do. And its not art either. If it was just a crappy photo, no kind of meaning put into it other than "look at me, I'm depressed!!", in my book that isnt "art".

SH is quite a big thing these days... and several of my friends have told me about it. In its simplest form its just a way for them to cope with their stress, which still isn't good in any way, and therapy is the best way to help someone like that... but when you start "showing off" with it, then thats totally different, and a much worse problem.

Half the time people "pose" with it to get attention, and not because they are actually depressed and that is actually the only way they can cope with it, but because they want people to THINK they are depressed so they get the attention. There are many people in the world that think this way... and it's really a sad thing.
