Something Is Slowing My System Down

Every few minutes, my computer goes in waves of slowness. For a few minutes, it'll be running fine, than a few minutes later, it runs really slow...then speeds up again.

I've followed all the directions in the spyware removal forum to a T, and I'm still having the problem.

Can somebody give me any advice? I had the same problem a few months back and formatted my hard drive and it fixed it. Now, just like last time, out of the blue, it's doing it again. I'd really like to avoid reformatting if I can.

You still have a thread at the bottom of this page concerning the same issue, but you said that you fixed it by clearing FireFox's cache. This might be considered double posting!

 

No, that thread was different. That was a problem while booting up. My system boots up normally now. I would close that thread if possible.

Sorry for the earlier post concerning duplicate threads. My only other suggestion would be to hit control, alt, delete, and see what apps are running!
