Something weird about Vista and older programs.

I've noticed that older programs (made for Windows 3.1 or 9x) run better on Vista than they did on XP. On XP, I had to change a whole bunch of things to get it to run, on Vista I don't have to. Why is this?

Funny thing is -- I have more problems with XP programs than 3.1/9x. :-D Maybe it's something to do with the binaries? I think the older ones use ANSI, while newer ones are Unicode.

Interesting, I remember having to run old games under DOSbox in XP, I'll have to try it in Vista. BTW, don't forget that your current machine is probably 50 times faster than your XP was, just a thought.

Well, these were Windows games, not DOS. 16-bit games. For example, some of the Maxis SimGames. SimEarth, SimFarm, SimTown. You know.

I'm very glad this isn't a 64-bit OS. Or they wouldn't have worked at all. At least not without a virtual machine.
