Sony DVD Drive reads, but not writes

Ok, I have recently put together a semi- frankenstein machine to run untill I can buy a new computer. All of the hardware is from a HP media Center pc m380n with exceptions to the HD. The original HD (windows XP) wouldnt boot anymore so I installed another windows xp HD that I had laying around. The only other changes were I added 1g ddr ram (which is recognized by the pc and seems to be running fine) and I installed a Sony dvd rw. The cd drive will read cds perfectly but will not burn them. I get a "write error" everytime using Nero (software that came bundled with the Sony drive from Best buy). I am attaching the log from the latest burn process.

This is common problem with older drives they will stop writing long before they stop working so is it a few years old? If so you can use canned air inside the drawer to try a blow dust from the lens,alternatively you can disaessemble the drive to check the lens is clean but leave that as a last resort.

Check the media your using supports the write speed you've selected in nero,choose the slowest write speed possible.

Fully update windows including service packs,you may also want to update the firmware of the drive from the sony website,check device manager for any yellow exclamation marks or red crosses.

Try burning a disk with the built in windows burner,this will tell you if it's a problem with hardware or software,you can also burn a disk in windows media player so try both of them.

Ideally testing the drive in another computer is the best option to completely eliminate a software problem.
