Sony DVD RW will not burn Audio/Data Cd's!...help

I have a sony dvd rw model DW-Q30A. I bought my pc new in Nov of 2006 with this drive. Computer came with 1 yr tech support and warranty. They were great and always fixed my problems.

Unfotunately, I never used the CD drive to burn cd's. The CD drive worked for everything else but when i tried to burn my first cd(about 2 weeks ago) i noticed the burning progrma was going through the motions(like it was burning) but when i took the cd to my car, ect they would not play.

So, i called the manufacturer to see if they could help. They promptly reminded me that my 1 yr warranty was expired. The tech was very nice and spoke to her supervisor who approved her to help fix my problem. We went through numerous steps(i cannot recall most of them but i know they were complicated) several times. Several times i tried to burn a cd(with her on the phone) and it still was not working. We came to the overall conclusion that the drive itself was bad. They shipped me a brand new drive(of the same brand/model number). I got it a few days later. Replaced the drive. Same problem.

I called back. I got the $50 an hour speech. I told them they were crazy and i hung up the phone. I have been doing a little research on this and found several sites that offer tech support for this brand/model cd drive. I have notfound any problem that is exactly the same as mine. The darn thing just wont burn cd's!
Its a brand new drive!

It may be useful to know that when i pull the cd/r out of the drive(after an attempted burn) i look at the bottom of the cd and notice it looks like there is data on the burning side(like a shadow that wasnt there before i put the cd in) So, obviously it is putting the "scratches" on the disk.

I also troubleshot another problem. I have a laptop that burns cd's just fine. After burning a cd i put it in my pc drive and the drive recognizes and plays the burned cd? Weird! So i know it sint that it cant play them it is just having a problem burning.

Can anyone help in this area? Above and beyond what the tech had already went through with me?:cry

 

You say that CDs burned in your laptop will play OK in your OC. You also say that the CDs that you burn in the PC have the 'shadow' on them, meaning that something is burned to the disc. Have you tried a disc burned in the PC in your laptop? What happens?

 

the burned cd (from pc)will not play in either format (car/laptop)

 

im just using the windows media player...im using wmp on both my laptop and my pc

 

i am using the latest version of wmp(dont know what version exactly)...i also have cyberlink powerstarter and have tried to burn with that program also with no luck....i have also attempted to burn with windows by sending the music to burn directly to my CD drive and that doesnt work either.
