Sony DVD+RW

I have a Sony Vaio with a Sony DVD+RW drive. The first discs bought were Packard Bell and worked. However I have bought Phillips and TDK and the drive does not recognise the discs. Could anyone shed any light on the reason why?

lol @ packard bell..... see if there are any updates for the drive itself drivers/firmware etc....when you say not recognized....meaning when you go to write a cd it's doesnt see the blank media?

 

Yes it doesnt see the media. If I use windows explorer and double click the dvd drive i get the error message. However when I use a Packard Bell disc it works??

 

I have to ask the obvious first. The blank DVD's that aren't being recognized are +R? If so, then you have encountered a problem that many people experience, myself included. Your burner is picky in what types of blank media that it will work with. I have a NEC burner that only works with Maxell, at least that is all that I've found so far. The only solution that I know of is to search for a firmware update at the manufacturer's web site, as the above poster mentioned. The firmware updates generally add more media detection/acceptance capabilities to the burner. If you decide to update your firmware, read the directions and instructions carefully.

 

Buy preminum media, Look for media containing AZO metal dye, or branded disc's.
Most of the stuff at local retailers is low end stuff, sure some it works but youll find lot's of bad disc.(But they make great coasters)
Some burners are very picky, lot's of online retailers offer compatibility chart.
