I hear that sony has put some malware or firmware or dialer on cds. While I don't copy cd's I was still wondering about other companies. Also, I was wondering if anti-virus software like Avast would be the one to solve this problem and have they. If not then how and who?

Its not malware, or a dialer, its a rootkit.

However, Sony has not only halted production of XCP CDs, they have removed them from store sehlves and are buying them back from consumers.

The almighty lawsuit(s) have put the fear in them, along with additional legal ramifications now that virus writers are using the technology.
