Sony Floppy Drive Giving Me Headaches

I just built a new system. The specs are as follows:

AMD 64bit 3500+ Processor (Venice Core)
    DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR Socket 939 Motherboard
    2gig Corsair RAM
320gig Western Digital Cavier SE Hard Drive
    Sony MPF920 3.5" Floppy

When I try to access my floppy drive it tells me to "Please Insert Disk" when there is a disk in the drive. I've tried several different disks and I have tried replacing the drive with a new one of the same model but to no avail.

The drive appears installed and working properly in the Device Manager. I've looked for an updated XP driver for the floppy but I can't seem to find one.

I've heard it could be the controller on the motherboard (which would be a real nightmare sending it back so I hope this is not the case).

"Any help here would be hot."

Just a quick question, is there a constant light showing on the floppy drive?

Seen what theefool is alluding to a hundred times. Why can't floppy manufacturers make it plain where PIN 1 is on the data connector, or make the orientation standard like hard drives? Try unplugging the data cable from the floppy and reversing it if the activity light is constantly on.

Yes, I to noticed that and thought it was funny that the light was constant. I was under the impression that it should only blink when the drive is accessing the disk.

Your saying I just need to unplug the cable out of my motherboard and flip it over? Or should I swap the ends and try it that way?

Just make sure the stripe on the cable is oriented to Pin 1 on the motherboard-- it should be plainly marked, and is probably already correct. Just unplug the cable from the floppy and reverse it-- see what happens.

    UPDATE:

I've tried a few things since my last post and here's where I am:

    1) I started out as I said before the with green light on my floppy always on and the computer telling me to "Insert Disk Into Drive A:" when a disk is already in the drive.

    2) I tried unplugging the end that connects to the floppy itself and and flipping it over. I was successful in getting the light to go off but the drive won't read the disks.

    3) So I tried unplugging the end of the cable that connects to the motherboard and flipping it over. Now the light is back on constantly and it still won't read the discs.

    Any thoughts?

    Victory!

After a lot of trail and error I finally got the chord oriented into its correct position.

Since neither DFI or Sony label either of their floppy connections it took me awhile to finally find the right configuration.

Thanks for the help guys ;)
