Sony Intel Nvidia

I am tech savy and I'm stumped. Please, no suggestions like "is it plugged in".

This is a Sony Laptop VGN-FE890 running factory installed Vista Home Premium. All software, firmware, drivers are current version. The motherboard is Intel. The graphics card is Nvidia. Here are the specs http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNFE890.

As usual tech support from all three companies was useless. Internet search turned up nothing.

Both Intel and Nvidia don't allow downloads to Sony. I know I can get around that but Sony modifies the software too much.

I have no idea why this happened.

The Nvidia drivers stopped working and can't be reinstalled by any means I tried. The system defaults to the motherboards onboard base graphics driver and loads "vgasave" to provide graphics.

I searched the registry for any problems and everything seemed kosher.

Short of blowing away everything and starting over, does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Larry
