Sony Vaio - cant use dual screen

    My sony laptop running windows vista isnt allowing me to connect it to the tv. I have the cable and it worked for a little while and then it stopped. My screen on my laptop shuts off and my tv starts blinking. I went to my video card information in the control panel and it shows single screen mode and I cant change it like I can on my other laptop.
