    Model : PCV-RS720G - Sony Vaio Tower

Here's my problem, i just recently installed BFG FX5500 into the tower and when i first restart the computer and plugged the monitor into the new graph.card , it had a Red Sign on in the middle of the screen that read,
"Attention signal Frequiency is out of range
    H:--.--
    A:--.--
    Please chage signal timing"

I dont know what the "H" and "A" stand for, but NOTE there might not have been and "A" . i copied H, but rememberd A from memory, it might b incorrect.

I have done the steps by disabling my Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family , Display adapter after plugging the chip in and then restarting computer, to where i have got that "out of range" on the screen.

I've found someone on the site that has just about the same exact problem as me, but i cant message him due to a lack of posts because i had recently joined . please take a look at his thread to understand more of what i have to go through .

    Thanks in advance.

Hi... I took a look at the thread you linked to, and it was over a year ago, but as I was reading it I kind of remembered the problem. From what I do remember, I don't think I ever got any PCI video cards to work, and finally got a brand new (at the time) PCI Express video card to work. I cleared the BIOS using the on-board jumper and installed the card before powering on after clearing the BIOS. I think this prevented the system from 'bonding' to the on-board video first, and sent the video output to the new PCI Express video card. I also remember that I was unable to flash the BIOS, but that there was a BIOS update available that fixed problems with add-in video cards. The Sony site had 3 different BIOS versions, none of 'em worked. I just checked the Sony site for your model, and there is a BIOS update that fixes an issue with PCI Express video cards, here's the link http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=PCVRS720G&upd_id=1714&os_id=7 You didn't mention if your problem starts right when the PC is powered on and you don't get the Sony logo, or if the PC starts loading Windows normally, but then when Windows is about to load up, you get the 'signal timing' message. If it's the latter, then try booting in Safe Mode and uninstall the BFG video card from the Device Manager and reboot. Then install the Windows XP nVidia driver from this link. Reboot and you should be OK *fingers crossed*

To Answer you question real quick, The problem with the monitor showing the "signal timing" would occur after the logo, but to explain the problem even further, the display would only show on the Intel Display Adapter.. to the point to where i logg in. -- before i logg in, i can see my cursor on the Nvidia Display Adapter -- after i logg in, i get the whole screen Without Any Icons. Although, i can browse through the computer. No games or apps are able to run exept window folders and IE . I basically had 2 screens because i would have to periodically switch the cord to the monitor back and forth with the Display Adapters . That occurs when either i have both adapters enabled, or just the Nvidia enabled.

So far to this point, i had done what you pointed out to do in your reply exept install Windows XP Nvidia . I just DL'ed it and am about to install and reboot.

OK ... This is whats up... I uninstalled, and reinstalled the Nvidia Driver. I Installed the AMBIOS update. Sadly, the same EXACT thing happened again. I was able to copy the "no signal" completly though.

Attention signal Frequency is out of range
    H : 44.8 Khz
    V : 85.4 hz
    Please change signal timing

I had done the AMBIOS install correctly, as i read what i had to do on the site before i installed. Nothing really seems new in the BIOS though. I couldn't find "on-board graphics" nor could i find "Assign IRQ to VGA" to be enabled, as stated in the BFG Bios tips .

I'm sorry for any time i had you waste .
I think god doesnt want me to enjoy my experience on computers xD
or maybe SONY is just that cheap .

I tryed calling Sony's Support team, but they want to charge me 30-40$ just to speak with them, and its not a for sure thing that they would be able to help me. BFG's support team couldnt help because they dont have info about Sony computer problems with installing graphic cards. Plus, the geek squak couldnt help me over the phone, the people i got to talk to didnt know or understand my problem, and had to constantly check with their manager.

I guess i just have to bring it in .. although i dont have the funds to pay for anything.

Any other suggestions on what to do would be great. Thanks again dlb, i just wish you lived near me so i can take it to you .. hahahah

I have plans today, so i'l check up on this later, Happy Valentines day to all.

    Hi,

H is for Horizontal Sweep Frequency and V is for Vertical Frenquency. It's probably telling you that you have a resolution set that the monitor can not handle. Maybe? Go into Safe mode and set a much lower resolution and work up to the one you want.

    Good Luck, Jim
