Sony VAIO - how do you find out what hardware you have?

My son's Sony VAIO laptop pucked it's guts, and I couldn't get it to boot up Vista and stay running. I've reinstalled Vista, but because the great guys at the now defunct Circuit City kept his restore disk - they told them that they absolutely needed to keep it. Well, guess what - it's in a landfill now.

I need to at least figure out what video driver and what wireless network drivers I need to install. It's a Sony VGN-FZ340E - but how does one ever figure out what is installed for hardware?

Does it have a "wired" network port? If so connect that to your cable-DSLmodem/router/network switch and run Windows update. That should find missing drivers.

You will find the video drivers down the list. Try the nvidia ones first since that is what the marketing specs say is in this model. If they don't install, use the intel ones.

Sony actually has very good info and support on this website for their computers. My wife has one of similar vintage...no problems on it at all. Also, there is usually on Sony's a hidden recovery partition that you can restore the laptop to factory specs. The manuals and everything you need to know are also available at that link.
