    Hi,
    I have a Sony Vaio laptop VGN-FS115B
I am unable to type CAPITAL letters unles i hold down the Shift key all the time.
Pressing the CAP lock button does nothing & does not even make the light come on.

I have removed the driver / restarted laptop but still the same issue.
I have read a few posts on the internet but casnt seem to find a solution.
Do you have any advice fror this please.

I recommend you connect an external keyboard and see if CapsLock works there. If it does, that tells you your keyboard is failing - or may just have some cookie or potato chip crumbs under the CapsLock key and needs cleaning. To clean, make sure the computer is powered off, turn the notebook upside down and gently tap the notebook on the edge of your desk. Use cans of compressed dusting gas or an air compressor with a suitable moisture and particulate filter and see if you can blast out the accumulated dust, dirt, crumbs and hair.

If the external keyboard CapsLock key does not work either, you have something wrong with the computer. I don't suspect malware (though always good to check). My bet at this time is the keyboard itself.

I suppose there were too many diverse answers there for you to respond to specifically to any one them.
Did you attach an EXTERNAL keyboard to the laptop, and if so did caps lock work???
Did you also try bringing up the ONSCREEN keyboard and if so did the caps lock key work there??
If you did, and those two above worked, then that more or less says there is most probably a mechanical problem with that one physical key on the laptop keyboard.

    I have no external keyboard.
    Onscreen keyboard,what is that.
I only have the normal keyboard which is the lower half of the laptop.

I checked the registry but no fil which shows anything is dissabled.

You can borrow one if you have a friend/relative/neighbour. (You need to realise that you may well need to buy one).
Google 'onscreen' keyboard Windows..(then insert the Windows version you have)'
Or on your system you can also search EASE OF ACCESS.
If you can't fine it Google :
'What accessibility features does Windows offer?'

    1. Hold down the Windows key and press R
    2. In the run box type osk then press the Ok button or simply press enter.
    Voila, onscreen keyboard.

Putting osk in the run box now gives me the on screen keyboard.
Pressing lock on this key board NOW makes the caps work in upper case until pressed again.
    This is better for me.

Does it tell you anything as to why the cap locks work this way but not without getting the osk up ?

It tells you the laptop keyboard physical key is borked. Think about it - one is physical, the other on the onscreen board is 'virtual'. You now either buy yourself a new cheap plug in or wifi keyboard or you just use the onscreen 'virtual' keyboard.
You could consider getting it repaired but it's bound to cost a good bit and may not even be repairable. If you had any experience of fixing such a laptop keyboard it's possible, but much more fiddly than a standard KB repair and could result in ruining the laptop KB and even the lappy itself.
