Sony Vaio VGN-FJ290P Display has no power

Hey everyone,
The computer is a Sony Vaio that was dropped a while ago. The screen stopped working, and it wasn't booting, so I took it apart. The boot problem was a power issue.. so that is now solved, but I'm wondering about the LCD. Last night after I took it apart, cleaned and reassembled it, the screen worked fine. I left it running to charge the battery and went to bed. This morning when I woke up the screen won't turn on again. I didn't move the laptop or anything!
It is not an issue of the screen being too dim.. There is no faint outline of any picture - it's more like there is no power to the screen at all.
Anyone know what the problem may be and how to fix it?

Hey, no.. I didn't shut it down. I think it's the hard drive: I discovered that if I take out the hard drive, the screen and everything works.. it just says that it cant find the OS.

I got it to boot once just now, so I'm backing up all of the files. Does a broken HDD sound about right? We can get a new one for about 60$, so that should be fine. A 2.5" SATA drive is pretty universal, right? I can just buy one, and it don't have to worry about special specs or anything like RAM, right?

Anyone have any other ideas about what may be causing the problem? I'm currently thinking the HDD, but if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!
