    I have a 5 year old sony vio desktop running windows xp home. The hard drive is 160 gigs but is partitioned into a hidden 6 gig partition and a 15 gig c drive and a 128 gig d drive. The c drive is nearly full. I would like to reclaim the space on the d drive but and not familiar with partitioning. What would be a free and easy way to get back that space from the d drive and add it to the c drive. I don't even need all the space (half would be plenty). I would just like to re-size them.

    Do this;

    Start
    Type in run "FDISK"
    Then right click the partition you want to "un-partition" then click "shrink".

    But this should really be in the software section, you will get a quicker and more useful reply there.

    I would leave as is, and mearly create new folders , and name them (doc 2, pics2, or, whatever, in the d;partition, by going to my computer, and clicking on the d: partion.
    Then I would go to start, run, and type in
    sendto
    The box now comes up, and all you need to do is to create shortcuts to the D;partition, as the brouse box comes up, brouse to the D; partition, and to one of the new folders, and click on that folder- shortcut is now available, Do the same with a few more, folders, or, create more as you need them.
    When you close the sendto folder, if you click on say, your music folder, and some of your music, or, My Documents, or, pictures, you can right click an item, choose sendt--- and the result should be that you have a copy in the D; partition- open the copy, to check its o.k, and if so, you can delete the original- Or, when you want to save something, say, a download, or, oictures, or, a document, again, just right click, and save in the folder in the D;partition you created.
    You can move MY Document folder , and others, to the D;partition, but as you are so full, you might find problems, as you usually need 2gb, or, thereabouts of free space on the partition you are using to copy over stuff ( like with burning a cd/dvd, as it holds a copy on your hard drive, to copy. You might have to delete anything you do not really want to keep, to be able to use sendto for anything already on the C:partition.
    Your hidden partition probably holds a recovery option (6gb sounds about right for one), so I would think before using partitioning software, and I would not advise the use of fdisk!:)

    I have merged both of your threads. Please do not post two threads for the same problem.

    :-o

    It's just that it was a Software related problem in the hardware section.

    My fault on merging it in Hardware. I didn't read the question thoroughly. You are now moved to Software. :)
