Sorting file types in folders (win 7)

Simple little request here.

When I look in one of my folders it lists files by file type under there appropriate headings. In Win 7 is there a way to make it change the order in which this file types appear?

I would like to prioritize for easy opening of files.

Not real clear about what you're wanting...in Windows Explorer, you can sort files by Name, Date, etc. (see screenshot)...

I mean in a folder where you have files displayed as Medium Icons which are sorted by File Type.

Can you make one file type the priority so all of that type are displayed top of the list?

 

I may be wrong (which has happened before, oddly enough), but I don't know if there's an easy way to do what you ask within the current version of Windows Explorer. There are possible registry alterations that disable the 'auto-refresh' function (from what I understand, Windows XP was the last Microsoft offering that allowed the disabling of auto-refresh), but I'm loathe to start digging into any registry hacks with someone else's machine...

You might try a third-party file manager, such as FreeCommander, see if you can find the sorting options that you require.
