Just bought a new asus laptop with windows 7. Now I have just encountered a problem when I try to play videos or music in WMP /centre , I keep getting the following error message........ Windows Media Player C00D11B1 and it promptly stops working

It also wont let me stream any online content like radio stations if it needs wmp to stream it threw It also affects my other players like VLC which will show the video content but not the audio

It Also extends to any other players lIke VLC, quicktime, and winamp.

Youtube etc work fine so its not a hardware issue but I have not been able to find a solution so far

Any help and assistance would be very much appreciated

Ok lets try this... Create a restore point first...

    1. Unhide all hidden files by ....start > controlpanel > appearance and personalization > folder options >go to wiew tab > check hidden files and folders : show all files and folders

    2. Verify that you can see hidden files

    3. Open a Windows Explorer (Windows key + E) and then go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM\ (can’t see the folder? Repeat step 1-2, the folder is hidden!)

    4. Delete all files in the folder.

    5. Open the subfolder Cache and delete all files in there as well.

    6. Let Windows Media Player download your licenses again.

    7. Play your Windows Media Player files again

I tried this method earlier today and I was able to get around the link not working by opening it in IE so I was to licence it again but it still did not work

And the DRM folder contained no files or sub folders to delete Codecs did not work either including ones for win7

In short... I'm still suck with the same issues

    Hi,
One option that you can choose to do to fix the problem but lose out on the functionality found in the newer versions of Windows Media Player is to revert to an older version of the software.

To remove the current version of Windows Media Player from your computer, you will want to open your computer’s “Control Panel” by choosing the “Start” menu button followed by the “Control Panel” options (This may vary slightly based on your version of Windows). Then choose the “Add/Remove Programs” menu option, and select the “Windows Media Player 11” program icon followed by the “Uninstall” menu button. Before undergoing this step, you will want to locate a legacy version of Windows media player to download and install after removing Windows Media Player 11. Your music and video library “should” remain intact, but I would recommend backing up to a removable media such as a memory stick/cd/dvd or portable hard drive before removing the software as well.

The cood11b1 error has also been found to be created during online video or audio streaming with incorrectly configured Windows Media Player proxy settings. You can verify these settings by choosing the “Tools”menu option from the Media Player main menu followed by the “Options” menu choice. Then, choose the “Network” tab and choose the “Configure” menu option followed by the “Autodetect proxy settings” menu button. If you still do not have any luck clearing the error, you can also turn off the “UDP” packet option in the configuration panel.

A hardware solution to check for the cood11b1 error is if the correct audio device is selected for your computer. You will want to choose the “Tools” menu choice followed by the “Options” selection and “Devices” and ensure that “audio for your PC” is selected.

If you still do not have any success clearing the Media Player cood11b1 error, you will want to consider running a full antivirus scan of your computer as a next step to check for larger issues. Still no luck, it may be time to try Windows System restore, or running a registry cleaning software program to try and get a known good configuration on your computer. You will want to make sure that you have made backups of any new data created since your last restore point of taking the first of these two actions.

download and run Ccleaner... do not change ANY of it settings... in the cleaner hit run cleaner in the bottom righthand corner.. when finiished click the registry button and hit scan for issues then fix selected issues when prompted to save the selected before removal DO SO as this will help revert anything deleted that should not have, but it should'nt as long as you dont mess with its settings.
Post back to let me know how you get on.

By default Windows 7 has WMP 12 as the default media player, though you can downgrade the player from 12 to 11.Though the method is not straight forward and you will need to perform a hack uninstall of WMP12.There are several steps you will need to follow to do this.

    Step 1: http://www.mediafire.com/?iaevtxyewxe

Step 2: Type services.msc in the search bar and open the services application.

Step 3: Find the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and stop it.

Step 4: You will need to take ownership of several files which include:

    1. All files in Program FilesWindows Media Player folder

    2. All files starting with wmp in System32 folder

    3. wmploc.dll.mui in Sytem32en-us folder

How to take ownership of files is explained here ... http://www.blogsdna.com/2159/how-to...sions-to-access-files-folder-in-windows-7.htm

Step 5: Run the Windows Media Player 11 Installer you had downloaded earlier.

Step 6: Type Regedit in Windows 7 search bar and open the registry editor application.

Step 7: Delete following Registry key..... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftMediaPlayerSetupInstalled Versions

Step 8: Reboot your Windows 7 for the changes to take effect.

Forgot to add that when you download WMP11 do not install it untill after you have completed the other steps.... save it to your desktop or leave it in you downloads folder.

I ended up doing a clean install but I do appreciate the time and effort you gave in helping me m8. It was appreciated. The laptop is only a few days old so it was really no big deal in spending an hour or so to re-install then spend another day or so trying to find a solution. In the end many like me have ended up going this route as they also have not found no solution

    Cheers m8

Thanks for the feedback, I am sorry the solutions that i gave did not work for you, but thanks for sticking with it ;), some times a fresh install is not unavoidable to fix certian errors such as yours. I am please that your issue is now sorted though, any more issues just create a new thread and some one will try to assist you.
