I have a problem with the sound. The computer uses realtek hd. Volume bar appears in upper left hand screen and at 100% and is not adjustable it goes away when you restart the computer but it comes back. Idon't know what causes it to come back. Any help.

I'm sure a site administrator will move this to the appropriate support forum (as this is the 'Lounge' for non-technical subjects), but in the meantime can you give us clearer information:
    1. What is the exact name and model of the system you have and whether it is laptop or desktop
    2. What is the version name/number of the audio device (look in Device Manager)
    3. What is the Operating System and any Service Pack installed that the system runs on

    Thanks

    Hi
Very likely as Max says you need to let us know the make and model of your PC as audio drivers can be model specific so not all Realtek Audio drivers will work and installing wrong ones and then not uninstalling them properly can cause conflicts.

Do you have sound coming if you play music etc?
The upper left screen reference to audio is likely an on screen reference, so in the system tray the bottom right of your taskbar (by the clock) do you have what looks like a speaker icon? if so click that to adjust audio, also in Control Panel > Control Panel\Hardware and Sound click under Sound audio volume and see if that works.

As for an on-screen reference, this could be down to your PC make and model and in some cases the likes of HP, ACER etc do install their own softwares that could cause this icon, need to also know whats starting with your PC at boot, so background tasks, to do this follow the below as written and attach the log.

And, if its a laptop, there are buttons to lower, raise, or mute the sound. They are what usually trigger the OSD (On Screen Display) you mention.
What is the make and model of the PC?
