sound blaster live 24 bit problem

i got a sound blaster live 24bit today at staples for my new comp...ive had this one before in my other computer, but it wouldnt play sound..well, same problem w/ this comp...i got all the drivers installed and xp recognizes that its there...i just dunno why it wont play sound...any ideas???

 

Does it play any sound at all? i.e. crackling, or is it completely silent?
Have you got the speakers plugged into the earphones socket or the line out socket?

 

also make sure any onboard sound is disabled.

 

ok...so there is a slight humming sound...and i think i have the onboard sound disabled...but im not 100% sure....its a k7n2g board from msi..so any suggestions??? i realy wanna get it working...

 

Sounds like you may have digital output only enabled.

Try this:

1. Click Start and go to Programs - Creative - Sound Blaster Live! , then click Surroundmixer.
2. Click the red plus sign above the Master Volume Control.
3. Un-tick the option 'Digital Output Only'.

 

i was playing with all those setting last night....that didnt work...i just tried it again...same thing...didnt work...

 

Have you tried putting it in another PCI slot?
There can be conflicts with the AGP port and the first PCI slot.
Does Device Manager show it to be working OK?

Try the info from this page. I had a SB L!ve, and I had major sound problems in games, this routine worked. May be that you've "lost" a couple of default codecs along the way.
