Sound capture problem: ADI 1986

I have been meaning to record a game... But I have experienced some trouble.

I have a laptop with windows xp sp2. My soundcard is an ADI 1986.

In my old PC, in the volume controller, I had a lot of options in the record part, there was the line-in and out, the wave controller,etc...
If I captured the sound, while wave was selected, it would record all the sound that was sent to the card, no phones, no mic, no nothing.

In my laptop, I tried to do the same thing, except, in the record part (HD Audio capture) it only has the microphone's input volume, which I don't need, since I don't have a microphone... What happened to the wave option?

I have no idea how to fix this... Is it a driver problem? Maybe I have installed it wrong... Or is the soundcard that doesn't support it?

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Any question just ask. Thanks in advance.

I'm not at all familiar with your laptop but, recording existing audio is usually possible with most any decent audio recorder. Usually you only have to run the audio to record while the audio program is in record mode. Even 98's SOUND RECORD works altho it will only record 30 seconds without tricks. It could make an extremely large audio file as it would be recording the whole time. Maybe someone will have personal experience with what you want to do GUYS?

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L40.

That's the thing... I have got my really old PC at home, that is about ten years old, and I have no problem doing it.

A friend of mine said that in order to do that I needed some thing in my soundcard that laptops don't usually have, but he couldn't really tell me anything else...
