I am now in the process of looking ad sc's and speakers. My old sc only had a green port to plug my 2.1 speaker system into. Now, all the sound cards seem to have many outputs. The Creative Labs X-Fi Gamer Fatality Sound Card has these outputs: Line Out 1: Front Line Out 2: Rear Left, Rear right, and side right, and Line Out 3: Center/Sub/Side Left.

I was considerint this card, but, which speakers should I get. I want to hear from all who have experience with decent speakers.

How would my current 2.1 speaker system, which only has a green plug to plug into one port, plug into this card, if I didn't want to get speakers right away, but I think I do. In any event, how would the speakers of today connect to this card?

    Thanks,

    Viper

This card would support the 5.1 speakers I have (Logitech Z-5500).

You are going to want to go with 5.1 speakers if you really care about your audio experience.

Also, Your card should be compatible with the speakers your currently have.

The Z5500 logitech speakers you have. Do they sound great?

Also, what connectors on your sound card do the speakers connect to?

I may sound lame here, but all of the systems I have had in the past only had the speakers plug into the sound card with 1 cable. I'm a bit confused.

    Thanks,

If you buy the creative card, its plugs will be color coded (or in some cases just stamped in the metal, I have one with all five gold plugs with symbols stampe on them its a real pain to read them) and the speaker cords will be as well. They will also both come with quick setup guides to point out the color coding.
    Green - line out front
    Black - line out rear
    orange - center/subwoofer

To hook up your 2.1's while you wait to get your 5.1's plug green to green (front speakers). The others (usually pink or blue) are for mic or auxilary in.

    A five plug card
    green -front
    black -rear
    orange -cent/sub
    pink -mic
    blue -aux in
have separate connections for each speaker or input for 5.1 sound

    A three plug card
    green -front
    pink -mic or rear
    blue -aux in or cent/sub
can be used for 2.1 speakers (green) with a mic and aux input (pink/blue)

or used for 5.1 sound with no mic or extra input where the green is front speakers and the other two would be rear and center/bass repectively and you would set which you are using in your software within windows. But as for which color, you have to check the documentation, I don't remember off hand and the colors could be different on your card too. But Green is always front stereo speakers.
