Sound card isn't getting input

I am running a line from the pre amp out into my PC sound card and another line from the card back into the stereo. I want to process the signal using my soundcard, but the PC isn't getting the input. I have onboard Intel sound. What do I need to do?

 

goto your sound volume controller (the one you get when you click on the speaker in the notification area)

Goto Options -> Properties

Change the setting in the 'Adjust Volume for' groupbox to 'recording' and hit ok

Once you have changed it to recording it will let you edit the line levels for anything coming INTO your computer. You probably need to set the volume for the Line In

 

The audio properties box comes up when I click on the speaker icon. There are 5 tabs. When I get to the volume controller with the five slide controls and I click on properties and change the radio button to record there is still no sound.

 

Still no sound. The card output is working, but the signal from the stereo is not getting through the card. But, when I feed the signal from my TV tuner card through the same jack, the audio plays through. I know there is a pre amp out signal since the pre amp out plugs into the main in and the stereo plays.

 

Thanks for the help. The preamp signal wasn't high enough.
