Sound Card issues (win98se)

Ok i installed my sound card (soundblaster Live CT4780) the other night and it worked fine then the next day it just dident work at all so i removed it from the system and reinstalled it, and it has been installed just fine and is working correctly according to windows, but i can't choose it as my audio device and i cant get any audio to play.

any help or suggestions would be greatly appriciated

that problem usually exists when a wrong driver is used, or a driver, very similar to the one needed.
look at the install disk again

 

I Dont have the Driver Disk i had to download the drivers for it, and the drivers that i found allready worked once, why wouldent they work all of a sudden

 

where did you download the driver from? was it around 26 MB?

 

what OS are you using?

Im Running Windows 98SE and i couldent get the Whole Sound Blaster Live Ware to Install for me, so i Found just the CT4780 Drivers off of Driver Guide and downloaded them, i think it was about 4mb or so and when i first got them it worked great then just stopped.

 

maybe someone else can find some more info about it but at driverguide.com the os that supports it is NT and NT4

I Tried those Drivers, and They wont work with the Card.

And yea i have let windows update itself, is there anything i can do to get it working again?

 

You might try booting into safe mode and checking for hidden devices in device manager. Look for any entries under the sound catagory that are greyed out. If you find one, delete it and reboot to normal mode.

 

Ok I Did the booting in safe mode, went through and removed all the devices listed in the Sound Category and rebooted it found the new hardware and i installed the Drivers and everything, but still got the same problem, when i go into multimedia it still doesent show that i have any audio devices present.

I Dont get it, What could be the prob......

 

Do you have a built-in soundcard on your motherboard?

It could also be that fact that the darn thing just went belly up.

 

I Dont have a Built In Sound card, i dont think that its the card, because i cant get my PCI Network card to work either, and ive tried buying a new one of those and same results, so i hafta use USB to get online.

 

Well that's a rather important piece of info you left out there. You might try reloading your motherboard drivers, or better yet go to their website and see if they have newer drivers available. When you were in Device Manager, did you notice any yellow exclamation marks next to any entries in there? You could also try going into the BIOS and reset it to the default setting.

 

No I Have no Yellow Question Marks or Exclamation Points, and i will try the MotherBoard Drivers, and i think im gonna download Xp and see if that makes my System a little more stable

 

where do you dl windows from ... i mean if you want a free OS there are far better options than bootlegging windows ... and perfectly legal too

 

well i was gonna download Xp from Morpheus, as i did for a friend awhile ago, i'd be alot happier if i knew of another way to get a free NEW os like xp but i dont know how.
