I have a HP Vectra XE 310 with windows 98, 40 GB's harddrive, 256MB RAM, I recently rebooted my computer from stratch and when I reinstalled windows 98, eventhing booted fine. Everything, but my sound, I went to the hp website and downloaded the driver, but it still didn't install, so what are some of the options i can do to get my sound in my computer back.

    Hi,
    www.driverguide.com

You can search for a driver here if it don't work out another option would be to install a sound card.

Did you try deleting the soundcard in device manager and then rebooting? The new hardware will then be found, and it will look for a driver, and you can point it to the location where you downloaded the driver. :)
